Gutters, fascias and soffits do the unglamorous but vital job of directing rainwater away from your property. Failed gutters cause thousands of pounds of damage to walls, foundations and landscaping every year.

Materials we install

uPVC (most common)

• Cost: £30-£60 per linear metre installed
• Lifespan: 20-30 years
• Pros: Cheap, no painting, many colours, easy to replace
• Cons: Can become brittle with age, colour fades over decades
• Best for: Most modern properties, budget-conscious installations

Aluminium seamless

• Cost: £60-£100 per linear metre installed
• Lifespan: 30+ years
• Pros: No joints (formed on site from coil), won't rust, premium finish
• Cons: Higher cost than uPVC
• Best for: Premium installations, hard-to-access long runs

Cast iron (heritage)

• Cost: £80-£150 per linear metre installed
• Lifespan: 50-100+ years
• Pros: Heritage-correct, extremely durable, beautiful
• Cons: Expensive, requires painting, can rust if neglected
• Best for: Conservation areas, period properties, listed buildings

Fascias and soffits

Often replaced at the same time as gutters — they share the same fixings and removing one usually requires removing the others.

uPVC fascias and soffits

Most common modern replacement. No painting required, available in white, black, grey, woodgrain.

Timber fascias (heritage)

Period properties should retain timber fascias — we replace like-for-like using treated timber, then paint.

Replacement timber (where rotten)

If existing timber is rotten, we replace with treated softwood before fitting the new gutter system.

Soffit ventilation

Most older properties have inadequate loft ventilation, which causes condensation and can damage roof timbers. When we replace fascias and soffits, we always fit:

• Continuous soffit vents — allow air into the loft
• Over-fascia vents — additional airflow at the eaves

This often improves loft conditions significantly and extends roof lifespan.

Common gutter problems

• Leaking joints — failed rubber seals (uPVC) or failed weld (cast iron)
• Sagging — failed brackets or insufficient fall
• Overflowing — blocked downpipes or undersized gutters
• Rotten fascia behind — long-term leak has damaged timber
• Ice damage — winter freeze-thaw cycles
• Storm damage — ripped off in high winds

When to clean vs replace

• Cleaning only: if gutters are sound, just blocked
• Partial repair: joints leaking, brackets failing, but most is fine
• Full replacement: system is over 20 years old, multiple joints leaking, sagging, or visual upgrade desired
